Weekend Happenings Close to Home
Welcome home to Onyx! With 22 move-ins at the start of the month and dozens more throughout, you’re bound to see many new faces across our community. Give a neighborly “Hello!” and share some of the good vibrations we’ve been feeling this summer!
Maybe you’ll plan a meetup by the pool? Sync schedules for some yoga or a fitness center workout? Clear skies call for potluck barbecues or s’mores by the fire, and we’re always amped to see the grills and pits fired up. There’s a whole lot to like when you’ve made Onyx your home, so it’s totally understandable if you choose to lay low and stick close for a while.
When you do decide it’s time to head out (maybe you’ve run low on rations), restock at Galleria, Southdale, or 50th and France—they’re all within quick reach and feature finds to fit the most eclectic of tastes. Speaking of tastes, it’s easy to grab a great burger out, or even a late night, midweek, happy hour vino, too. The food scene in Edina is as vibrant as our arts, and the more you explore the more you’ll discover there’s a facet for everyone in our gem of a city!
When it comes to the arts, there’s a wide world of it in our very backyard. Beyond the boutiques, shops, and local artisans, Edina hosts a range of events throughout the year and features arts, artists, and a mix of classes at our Edina Art Center. Even on the streets, you’ll discover it all around—most pronounced in the inspiring sculptures that dot our landscape.
You can catch these fixed and rotating exhibits at 50th & France, Grandview Square Park, and The Edina Promenade, though we recommend reserving the later for Sunday. Timed right, you can enjoy its sights and an afternoon in Centennial Lakes Park—maybe with a little paddleboating or lawn games, too—and then linger around into evening. At 6:00 PM, Torchlight Concert/Lighthouse Night kicks off, welcoming all for an evening of antique cars, live music, model yachts on the water, and more. The night caps off with a performance by the First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band at 8:30 PM, followed by a fireworks show. What a great way to ring your new Edina residency in with a bang!

Artistry in mind, don’t forget about free Thursday nights at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, including Gallery admission from 5:00-9:00. Whether you’ve been before or have just been holding out for the right time, there’s no better one than free. If you manage to pull yourself from home and find your way a few miles north, it’s a great chance to explore the sprawling art—both indoors and out.
