There’s artistry all around us, and the coming weekend highlights it and the holiday with innovation and style. If you’re looking to stray from the path of haunted happenings, harvests and such, consider a short trip for something more couture.

Opening this Thursday and running through November 6th, the Twin Cities Horror Festival will host a range of artists, performances, and film dedicated to things just a bit more macabre. Top choice this weekend is award-winning A Zombie Odyssey, where audiences will be taken on a harrowing journey for love through the eyes of the undead.

With so many great things happening around us, Saturday will make for tough decisions, but Caponi Art Park ranks high on our list. If you haven’t yet visited this distinctive space, there’s no better time than now. Along with the walking paths, sculptures, and landscapes for which it’s become acclaimed, the park will also host it’s annual Halloween at the Park, this Saturday from 1:00-6:00 PM. Things heat up with live iron pouring, and visitors can get hands-on with pumpkin carving, art projects, and tours. Or, you could go all-in at what’s touted to be the state’s largest pile of leaves. With food trucks onsite and a bonfire for roasting s’mores, how can you go wrong?

With the day complete and evening upon you, Art In Motion: A Thriller of an Event showcases the talent of Ballet Royale, as dancers take to the stage with graceful interpretations of classic Halloween spooks. Costumes encouraged, you might even find yourself a part of the show!

And if costumes are too much to think about, you can always just throw on a robe (or cloak) and head to A MONK FEST, at GYST Fermentation Bar. In celebration of all things Belgian, they’ll be plenty of beer and Belgian-inspired treats, without the screams, scares, and hassles of some other, holiday gatherings.

No matter your style, there’s something our there for you, so enjoy the holiday weekend ahead and be safe, Onyx!

Whether you’re looking to spruce up your wrist with a new timepiece or to upgrade one past its time, you’ll have through Saturday to take advantage of R.F. Moeller Jeweler’s 7th Annual Watch Event. Wear it to a Sunday evening performance or tuck it safely aside as you take starting position for a 5K tradition. The race is on for the weekend, so think ahead and plan to make yours the best it can be!

Mid-October marks peak season of autumnal vibes. The nights are coming sooner, growing crisper, and seasonal fanfare is about to set into full swing. So, before we’re in the push to Thanksgiving and the holiday shopping lists to follow, let’s pause and give thanks for the vibrancy around us.

Edina will be bustling with life this weekend as 50th & France’s Pumpkin Fest kicks into gear at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 22. The annual event has grown exponentially in recent years, so expect a large crowd of goblins and creeps to be roaming the streets. Family friendly, there’s an itinerary to suit any whimsy, including face painting and trick-or-treating for the kids, plus tours, contests, and showcases for all. Explore the Map & Event Schedule in advance to set your disembodied head straight, and plan the day near home with pumpkin carving, treats, and some neighborly spooks.

Thinking locally, consider making your weekend warm-up a mid-Friday stop at Keller Williams on October 21st. From 11:00AM-1:00 PM, the team will be hosting their 5th Annual Chili Cook-Off, featuring 15 sweet and spicy selections. With proceeds going to support local charity, it’s a great way to meet an area business and to enjoy a few laughs with neighbors and friends—oh, and it’s a prep-free lunch!

Beyond our backyard, there’s even more to see and explore this weekend, so gear up, get out, and make some new memories.

You’ll discover an array of things to do in and around Edina this weekend, including some underground, flapper fanfare at the Wabasha Street Caves. Explore the subterranean history of the city and celebrate prohibition’s repeal in roaring twenties style. Cave tours, live music, craft beer, and themed costumes set the tone, and your playful engagement supports local community.

Food connoisseurs, don’t fret, there’s always an opportunity to sink your fangs into local deliciousness. Highlights this weekend include a Cheestoberfest (yes, that’s a thing) of locally crafted cheeses and brews; a chili-festival of music and beer—set against an orchard backdrop; and a Saturday morning race for a good cause. Hot Cider Hustle participants will indulge in caramel apples and spiced cider at the finish, plus a calorie-burning boost that’ll help you race through your day. The seasonal spirit runs strong through the weekend, so get out there and enjoy, Onyx!
