Onyx: The Gem of Edina
Author: Christopher Hoskins
There’s artistry all around us, and the coming weekend highlights it and the holiday with innovation and style. If you’re looking to stray from the path of haunted happenings, harvests and such, consider a short trip for something more couture.
Opening this Thursday and running through November 6th, the Twin Cities Horror Festival will host a range of artists, performances, and film dedicated to things just a bit more macabre. Top choice this weekend is award-winning A Zombie Odyssey, where audiences will be taken on a harrowing journey for love through the eyes of the undead.
With so many great things happening around us, Saturday will make for tough decisions, but Caponi Art Park ranks high on our list. If you haven’t yet visited this distinctive space, there’s no better time than now. Along with the walking paths, sculptures, and landscapes for which it’s become acclaimed, the park will also host it’s annual Halloween at the Park, this Saturday from 1:00-6:00 PM. Things heat up with live iron pouring, and visitors can get hands-on with pumpkin carving, art projects, and tours. Or, you could go all-in at what’s touted to be the state’s largest pile of leaves. With food trucks onsite and a bonfire for roasting s’mores, how can you go wrong?
With the day complete and evening upon you, Art In Motion: A Thriller of an Event showcases the talent of Ballet Royale, as dancers take to the stage with graceful interpretations of classic Halloween spooks. Costumes encouraged, you might even find yourself a part of the show!
And if costumes are too much to think about, you can always just throw on a robe (or cloak) and head to A MONK FEST, at GYST Fermentation Bar. In celebration of all things Belgian, they’ll be plenty of beer and Belgian-inspired treats, without the screams, scares, and hassles of some other, holiday gatherings.
No matter your style, there’s something our there for you, so enjoy the holiday weekend ahead and be safe, Onyx!
